Woollypaw sat outside within the camp washing his pelt as sunrise began to creep it's glimmering tendrils across the forest floor. It was tough work trying to tame his pelt, of which his name was notorious for. However, he was restless and itched to do something. Blizzardclaw would hopefully arrive from wherever he came from, the dawn patrol or his nest, and give him something to do. Hopefully it wouldn't be a task like collecting moss! Not that he'd ever complain; he knew every job was important for the benefit of the clan, and being a great warrior meant he would need to work his hardest at everything. And also because Woollypaw would never defy Blizzardclaw, who was about three times his own size and just as furry. His mentor was a little intimidating! But he was an admirable warrior and Woollypaw really wanted to make him proud.
As the sun crept higher, Woollypaw eventually gave up on trying to tidy his pelt and instead decided to practice some of the moves Blizzardclaw had taught him. A beetle scuttled along a tail-length in front of him. Crouching down, Woollypaw focused on balancing his weight onto his haunches, tucking his forepaws neatly against his chest. Forgetting to hold his tail steady, it swept side to side as he wiggled his haunches, pouncing towards his prey and cupping it between his forepaws.
Blinking happily at his success, Woollpaw could feel the little insect tickling his paw pads. He peeked open a paw and watched the beetle climb to the end of his toes and then, as if it were irritated at being caught, it fluttered its wings for a moment and then took flight. Sitting back on his haunches, Woollypaw watched it go absent-mindedly, drawing his tail around his side.
